Eight Days A Week - The Touring Years (GB/USA 2016)
One would think that in this day and age mythmaking surrounding The Beatles has receded, as the most popular band of the 20th century appears to slowly become a relic of a far away past, living on in web based digital forms. However, Ron Howard decisively and genuinely tells the already well known success story of four young lads from Liverpool by placing their years appearing on the stages of the world in pivotal position in his documentary EIGHT DAYS A WEEK: THE TOURING YEARS. It is a conglomerate, i.e. collage of carefully selected and effectively edited audiovisual components relying heavily on narrative cut ups of radio and television broadcasts, and exclusive fan footage which has never been seen before, thus enhancing the element of verisimilitude and transgressing the line of documental diary film. Its exclusive feature however is the presentation of newly restored footage, thus dissolving the traces of the aged film material in order to accommodate the quality viewing habits of contemporary generations resulting in an immersive appeal to win over the hearts of a new age.
